Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West, last Friday visited Springfield Primary School to meet with the School Council and speak at the school assembly.
During the visit Alok spoke to the children about his role as an MP and the role of Parliament, he also answered questions on future changes to Tilehurst and the condition of roads surrounding the school.
Following the assembly, the School Council gave Alok a tour of the school. The Council is made up of 20 students, aged 5-11, who hold regular class councils to discuss British values and other important topics.
Alok Sharma said: “I was delighted to meet the Springfield Primary School councillors and enjoyed answering their very thoughtful and intelligent questions during the assembly.”
Rosalind Somerville, teacher at Springfield Primary School, said: “Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed Alok Sharma’s visit and it will be one of the highlights of the School Council year. He had an excellent manner with the children and explained everything in an accessible and child friendly way.”
