Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West, last week held an assembly at Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School. Mr Sharma spoke to the pupils about how his role as an MP has evolved over a number of years and his current position as Minister for Housing and Planning.
After the assembly Alok met with a number of the pupils who shared their thoughts on the recent General Election, as well as their views on whether young people are engaged enough in politics.
Alok Sharma said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Blessed Hugh Faringdon School and meeting with the pupils. It is a fantastic opportunity to engage with my younger constituents.”
Alok Sharma MP continued: "My congratulations to the teachers and pupils on their good Ofsted rating. I have always been impressed with the students when I visited the school and all credit to Head Teacher Simon Uttley and his team for not just emphasising academic achievement but also instilling caring values. The whole of the Hugh Farringdon family, pupils, parents and teachers, can be very proud of the continuing positive progress at the school."
Headteacher of Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School, Dr Simon Uttley said: “Mr Sharma’s visit to Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School gave our students the chance to meet a serving MP and to understand the work serving Ministers undertake. Mr Sharma’s message that young people should engage in politics got through.”
