Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West, on Saturday attended and spoke at the Reading Pride Parade and Festival event.
Alok came to support the event and spoke on the main stage at King’s Meadow to those attending the free Pride festival. The main stage saw a variety of singers, dancers and comedians, before headline act Uniting Nations ended the night.
The theme of this year’s festival was ‘Love Unites’ and was the 14th annual Pride Festival to take place in Reading. Several thousand people attended the Pride parade, which gathered at Reading Station around 11am and made its way through Broad Street and onto Napier Road, Kings Meadow for the festival.
Alok Sharma MP said: “I was delighted to be invited to speak at the Reading Pride event this year. Pride festivals like this are a fantastic way to bring people together in celebration of our values of freedom, tolerance and equality.”
Alok continued: “The UK is widely recognised as the best country in Europe for LGBT equality and I am proud of the government’s achievements in this area.”
