Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West, was invited by some of his constituents to visit Burghfield Bowls Club to participate in a trial Bowls session.
Alok was coached through a bowling session by Bowls Development Alliance Coach, Kevin Belcher, and given a history of the club and the rules of the game. Following this Alok was able to join in on a round of bowls.
Burghfield Bowls Club was founded in 1990 by a group of 15 local bowlers to play mixed friendly matches. Since then the club has grown to 55 members at present and are affiliated at the Royal County of Berkshire Bowling association.
The Club is currently looking for new members of all capabilities and hold a full fixture list of mixed friendly matches throughout the year.
During his visit, Alok met some of the members and discussed the Club’s bowling ambitions for the future, as well as the plans for the imminent arrival of their new club house.
Alok Sharma MP said: “I was delighted to visit Burghfield Bowls Club and meet the members. Clubs like this are a fantastic opportunity for the community to get involved in a new sport, as well as get to know more people in the local area.”
